As a child, I was an observer—wide-eyed and fascinated, quietly watching my mother read cards and connect with the spiritual world. It was a warm midsummer Friday evening when my best friend—let’s call her Lucy—came to visit. She brought with her a brand new Tarot deck, still wrapped, and placed it gently in my hands. “It’s for you,” she said. I was surprised. I had never done a reading before, though I had watched many. She asked me to do a reading for her. Nervous but curious, I agreed.
